In the second installment of the marriage blog posts, I want to talk about changing your name. While next month will be the actual process of changing your time, this month will be trying to list all the places you may need to alert to the change.

– Your bank
– Your credit card company
– Your employer
– The social security office
– Locations that have your retirement accounts
– Apartment complex or changing your name on the deed/mortgage for your home
– Forwarding your mail if you are moving
– Student loan providers
– College or professional school
– May need to get new professional licenses or degrees
– Internet and cable providers
– Health insurance
– Medical providers
– Dental/vision insurance
– Car title
– Car insurance

While this is not an exhaustive list, it is a starting point. It could also be a starting point if you have changed your name after your divorce. Not all might need to be changed right away, but better to be safe than sorry!
